William, born October 2010, is 10 year old boy with a joyful spirit and bright smile! He has a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy. William does not have an adoption file currently, but we have been given permission to advocate for his adoption. His Welfare Center will create an adoption file if an adoptive family steps forward.
William receives therapy 4 times per week with therapy goals including improved head and shoulder control/movement as well as strengthening upper limbs. He has started exploring various communication methods in physical therapy to help his ability to express his thoughts, wants and feelings.
William has low muscle tone which affects his gross and fine motor skills. He enjoys interacting and playing with toys but does have trouble holding, grasping and releasing. He loves being propelled by his carer in his wheelchair which allows him to explore his home and community. He practices standing in a standing frame each day. William does need assistance with wheelchair transfers.
Although he is non-verbal, William understands instructions and questions asked of him and he is able to express his needs through non-verbal gestures. He does try to speak with sounds and words, but his language is limited and sporadic. He mostly uses his arms and facial expressions to communicate.
William attends education classes within the ICC Project five days per week. He enjoys learning and spending time in the classroom. He particularly enjoys computer class where he is learning how to use the mouse and touch pad. Playing simple games on the computer brings a smile to his face!
